The sneezing might just be reaction to dust? Pepper flakes often have lots of fine pieces from the crushing process.Interesting about the pepper flakes.

Thats a good idea. Ill remember that for future reference. I dont make a habit of cutting up alot of hot things or onions for that matter but its still nice to know.fill a sink deep with water, and do the slicing under the water. I've done that when cutting up a lot of peppers for salsa or chili. The slices will just float up
They do not have the receptors needed for them to be a problem.I thought id give jalapeños a try with my Conures seeing they love other types of non hot peppers. As i was cutting them up my eyes were burning similar to how an onion would. Then i got to thinking, i know jalapeños arent hot to birds but i wonder if they burn their eyes like it does me especially if they were to get juice in their eye. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
I decided not to give it to them.
Not having them in the mouth is reasonable but i cant understand the same for the eyes. Its not that i doubt it, its just hard to comprehend. They do not have the receptors needed for them to be a problem.
That's what I was thinking. I just thought it was interesting because I knew of people who put red pepper flakes in their birds chop regularly and didn't have these issues. Patches has a super sensitive respiratory system in general. Even the slightest amount of dust or dander makes him have sneezing fits. Lots of cleaning and regular daily showers has helped minimize the sneezesThe sneezing might just be reaction to dust? Pepper flakes often have lots of fine pieces from the crushing process.
Im kind of interested in what would happen if you rinsed the pepper flakes first but not interested enough to cause your bird to start sneezing. That's what I was thinking. Yeah I wondered the same. Like I would imagine the capsaicin could still be an irritant for mucus membranes (such as in the eyes)? Not having them in the mouth is reasonable but i cant understand the same for the eyes. Its not that i doubt it, its just hard to comprehend.
My understanding is that the receptors that we have all through our systems that make chilli feel hot are not within a birds system at all so the burning affect that chilli has on us can not be experienced by birds at all.Not having them in the mouth is reasonable but i cant understand the same for the eyes. When people talk about soaked seeds, what kind of seeds are you referring to? Which seed mix?Not winning any beauty contests over here

Basically seeds that I'm working on sprouting, but they haven't quite gotten there yet. So I take a tiny bit from the sprouter and leave the rest to continue sprouting. Any clean seed without pellets, fruits, etc works, but I tend to use a Lil Bird mix from Sprout People. I've also used some from China Prairie, but I don't like it as much. When people talk about soaked seeds, what kind of seeds are you referring to? Which seed mix?
Thats why i was asking. All of the seed mixes i buy have either pellets, fruit or both in it. The last time i bought sprouting seeds from Spout People my usuals lil,mid and amber waves of grain were temporarily sold out so i went with the oat&grouts, kamut and wheatgrass not knowing how long the others would be out of stock. Anyhow, was just wondering what everyone else was “soaking”.Any clean seed without pellets, fruits, etc
I love that Amber Waves mix too!Thats why i was asking. All of the seed mixes i buy have either pellets, fruit or both in it. My birds love the amber waves. They love the kamut also. Theyre pretty fond of the wheatgrass but its my understanding that wheat is high in gluten so i dont give it to them very ofter. For whatever reason they dont care for the oats& groats mix.I love that Amber Waves mix too!
Yeah finding a clean mix is hard without buying specific sprouting mixes or individual seeds. The TOPS mixes are expensive for what they are depending on where you get them but are an option. But sometimes Chewy has them on sale and I toss in a bag with my order.
TOPS All in One mix has Organic Barley, Organic Rye Berries, Organic Spelt, Organic Kamut, Organic Buckwheat, Organic Hulled Millet, Organic Pumpkin Seeds.
TOPS Napoleon has Organic Oat Groats, Organic Hulled Millet, Organic Flax Seeds, Organic Sesame Seeds And Organic Buckwheat
I'm not sure what other people are using though!
You know as soon as I hit "Post" I knew I had used the wrong adjective"Mini"?
