What are some activities that you do with your bird?

Hello,
I'd like to know what everyone does with their bird. It doesn't have to be things that you do directly with your bird, but also things like doing chores, cooking, whatever!

I'm having a hard time knowing what to do with mine to make his outside time worth it, so I thought to ask here for some ideas.

Thank you!!

What do you mean by "make outside time worth it?"

My Jardine's is out pretty much all day long doing whatever he wants lol. He looks out the website, threatens the children , hangs out with me while I do my computer work, gets scritches, etc.

My Bourke's is also usually out most of the day. He loves to fly so he spends time doing that, lands on whoever will let him, preens people, talks to the outside birds, steals bites of my food, and takes naps. He doesn't like hands so I can't pet him. I am working on training him to go back to his cage on command.

For the most part I don't try to direct what they should be doing while they are out. I give him places to hang out outside their cages and give them space and time to explore.

My amazon has come to like sitting on a stand while I cook. Usually with the TV on and doing the usual cat-calls (her, not me).

I'm sure this has nothing to do with me sharing some of the food with her, and it is just because she likes being with me. Yeah, that's it... it's not the food. She likes me. Right?

This actually worries me as her feathers are growing in (from pet store clip) and I'm not sure that a bird landing on the gas stove is a good idea if she gets impatient for her cut of the scrambled eggs or pasta noodles.

But we aren't there yet.

She hates going outside (and I was originally going to get her used to it, but decided it's a good thing once flighted if she just stops and stands paralyzed outside, just in case).

So mostly being in the same room while I cook or work on things.

(She's out most of the time, but I can't say I'm doing anything with her at those times).

My birds just play with toys foraging in their foraging toys sit watching out of window have a bath take a nap preen each other come sit with me or do tricks when they want the good treats fly around room upstairs I do do trick training but it’s probably not even 10% of time they are out unless they want to do it which some days they are just happy doing their own thing I think just being out of cage stretching wings different toys is enough for them

What I meant by "making outside time worth it" is more so directed at people like me who can't have their bird out all the time. Because my conure isn't used to being out all the time (our renovation halted his outside time by a lot, but I'm now getting back into letting him out again) and he's not much of a flyer, he honestly doesn't do much when he is out and I feel like it's almost the equivalent of him being in his cage. I also have dogs that are alright with him being out most of the time, but having him out as much as you with your birds would never be safe.

It's cute that your birds get to enjoy doing whatever they want outside their cages, I hope to be able to do that one day!

I understand my situation is unique, I just wasn't sure what you meant by that phrase.

Regardless of what they do with the time outside their cage, it is worth it :) Try giving some climbing and foraging opportunities outside the cage! It can still be on or around the cage area. Here's one example of a set up I had a while ago. It's up and away from dogs, but gives them a chance to get a change of scenery and exercise different muscles.

I think the same way. Other than flying everywhere, wild birds don't do much from my experience haha. Being in a home where I can't bring him out all of the time makes me feel a bit guilty, although I will be upgrading his cage soon, and in the future when I have my own home he'll have a large aviary to freely fly in with a few buddies. It's nice to learn what you do with your birds, I'll see what I can do to make my room an enrichment paradise, where it'll be safest for him to explore :)

Love the set up! It does definitely give me some ideas. My parents will be renovating my new room next year, so I'll keep these in mind, thank you!
