A face only a mother could love..... Steve has been following the growth of this young vulture. He's graduating from his awkward age.

I think vultures are adorable! I have a few stuffed toys and such, my friends know my love for them and send me gifts. They are the sweetest of birds and do really important work for the ecosystem.

I don't think he has any little baby pics of this guy. It hasn't been long since it left the nest and still dependent on mom. He still has some fuzz around his head. I didn't know they were sweet but they sure are important to the ecosystem. We have quite a few in our area, always soaring on the winds with those giant wings.

My favorite toy.... a little hamster. Had them when I was a kid. I keep him stuffed in the rail of the staircase so I have to see him all the time. :)

Many species of vultures are very social and maintain relationships with their parents throughout their lives. They are peaceful beings. They wait for carrion, and aren't hunters. Black vultures and turkey vultures flock together and help each other find food. And there are a lot of amazing factoids I can get into about the different kinds of vultures that evolved to eat very particular parts. They are so cool. I think they are misunderstood but their behaviours and social network is beautiful and I adore them. I study Himalayan species they are just so amazing. I find them cute!

Here in Aust we have mouse plagues every 2 to 5 yrs. I like it best when there are 5yr gaps and get real grumpy over the 2yr gaps.
Mind you a 10yr gap would be wonderful - but so would wining lotto.

I just got home from dinner and found this in my back yard.

There was a young buck (4 prongs) and 3 fawns. I tried to get closer but they ran off. Yes my yard is overgrown. We are waiting for the lawn people to come mow.

I live in town. 1 block from town hall and 3 blocks from the fire station.

If you look closely you can see the antlers on the buck over top of the weeds.

May be overgrown but a perfect habitat for the deer!
