We have the same situation going on here! We have to feed the cats before we let the chickens out and after they go to bed, otherwise the cat food disappears straight in their greedy little beaks. None of ours have gone broody yet this spring, which is unusual. We always have at least one mama by the end of March or mid-April. Watching a mama teaching her chicks to forage is one of my very favorite things.

I spend many hours sitting on the grass out the back watching them scratch around. Although the little ones have finally realized that I am 'the food lady' and have started running up to me whenever I go outside.
I forgot to out the cats food up earlier and the big girl chased the cats away so she could polish off their biscuits :/
