I can't remember when my Hahns got his blue feathers on his head and the red on his wings but I think it was older than 6 months.

Yes juveniles don't have these feathers. He looks older to me also.


Did they give you any hatch date paperwork etc?

No he didn't have paper work I asked but said he was hatched last summer thinking 6 to 8 month.
But I agree I think he may be older than that. I had read that they don't get the colors in until after 1 year.
It's okay he is a good boy. Needs training. I will work with him. Not a needy bird at all. He had a really good 1st night.
I thought he would be waking me up early (we are not early people :glowlol but he didn't make any noise until I started talking to him this morning.
He doesn't know what toys are or perches. He is just staying on 1 perch or going round the cage on the bars.
Any suggestions on how old you think he is?

I would say about a year old, especially if his red patches still grow a bit bigger in the next few months.

Thanks that is what I am thinking.
He is doing really good with the step up command.
He is still nervous but getting use to us.

A nice 1 yo bird is better imo than a 6 mo bird that is a terror. Not much difference in 6 mo for a macaw....lots of time left...

Well as long as he doesn't decide he must punch holes for his entertainment it could certainly be worse. Dobby tries to stay attached to sister any time he's out and she's around, I become chopped liver to him, except when I have a walnut kernel or he needs protection from Mom.
