Meet Bubbles. My little cousins hamster. They're away, and i said i'd watch him for a few days. He's a cute little bugger - but he doesn't.. smell... good. at all.

Actually the smell is probably the cage. Hamster don't normally smell much at all. However their urine is pretty stinky, especially if it's a male. They use it to mark territory.
Did your cousin leave you a change of bedding?? If not, you can use ripped up newspaper in a pinch

Awww, my little sister's hamster looked like that. I second the cage-cleaning suggestion though. Neither her nor my hamster ever smelled bad unless we let the cage go too long. I'd just toss some crumpled sheets of bedding in there with some paper shreds and let her do the rest though. Chewing and digging about come naturally to those guys. (as does the Houdini escape from the cage act...)

yeah the cage is the most of it. He is a male, too, so theres that. I scrubbed the cage and changed the bedding as soon as her got here My cousin is only seven, and she does a really good job taking care of him, he's never been smelly like this before. Oh, well. He's pretty calm, too, i was surprised! lol

That second pic made me laugh out loud when i saw it on the computer right after i took it!

i had a hamster not too long ago, named diamond. i loved her but had to get rid of her because i'm sensitive to certain smells.

lol, Carole, maybe he does need a bath. I think its too cold, though. Wouldn't want him getting sick while I'm taking care of him. How would i explain that to a seven year old?

Thats why most people use Cedar shavings is to help cover the smell..
