I am just too sad for words. I'm so thankful for the day you had together. My wish for you is God's healing for your loss, and MC.... Godspeed in blue skies.... fly high and mighty beautiful boy.

Sad update.

Easter weekend he had episodes of non responsiveness. I thought it was a reaction to radiation and contacted vet. MC snapped out of it and we kept going.

While we watched Phantom over a week ago, it occurred again. He sits and doesn't move. At all. Didn't eat. We took him back to IL on Tuesday. We thought it was effects of radiation, maybe his throat was sore?

Vet did a blood test to check for infection. Liver values off the chart. He couldn't make it through a biopsy and as they aborted that procedure, they did a fine needle aspiration. Result was cancer has taken his liver. He's had a dose of L-Spar, been fed by syringe up there, had fluids, etc.

We've spent thousands on medical care.

The next step would be chemo at an estimated 4 to 5,000 price tag with no possible cure per the oncologist. 6 months of treatments....6 hour drives once a week that MC would have to endure. If cancer goes into remission, oncologist said it would be back. He couldn't say if it would extend his life very long, if at all. There is very little known about cancer treatments for parrots. Dogs and cats, info available.

We brought MC home last night. He did a lot of beak grinding, escaped his cage (I opened door and he bolted for the top so we let him), did dead chickens in his travel cage (he fell earlier off his perch and he's so tired but he did it anyway).

Monday I'm to call IL and tell Dr. Welle his condition.
He is no longer with us.

We let him go from the pain of cancer over an hour ago.

He was sitting in the shade with me this afternoon and he fastened his beak on the side bar of his cage. I gave him skritches with my little finger for some time. He closed his eyes and I was hopeful he could just drift off then. He didn't.

I'm so sorry buddy. I'll love you forever.
Oh noooooo ! I don't have words to share right now. I'm just feeling the pain. I went through it with poppers.
It is so sad. I know you loved MC, we all did.
I'm just so sad right now, I need a smoke. I haven't smoked in a while.

I'm sorry for you and Secret. :sad1:
I think we were all so hopeful after it started healing, praying he'd turned a corner... devastated to learn the damage was already inside him.

You are an amazing parront, taking in a wild caught hot-head and learning to be an excellent caregiver to them both. He found his way to loving hands and you gave him many wonderful golden years.
I'm heartbroken he didn't have a better outcome, you did everything you could... cancer is such a horrid thing.

Wings high MC. :sadhug2:

I have no words that will comfort you. I do understand your pain. Time will heal and he will live forever in your heart. I have posted a poem I found after I lost my Bugsy. It made me feel better.

"I'll lend you, for a little while, a bird of mine," He said.
"For you to love while he lives, and mourn when he is dead.

It may be six or seven years, or maybe twenty-three,
But will you, till I call her back, take care of him for me?

He will bring his charms to gladden you, and shall his stay be brief,
You'll have his lovely memories as solace for your grief.

I cannot promise he will stay, as all from Earth return,
But there are lessons taught down there I want this bird to learn.

I've looked the whole world over in my search for teachers true,
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes, I have selected you.

Now will you give him all your love - not think this labor vain,
Nor hate me when I come to call, to take him back again.

I fancied that I heard them say, 'Dear Lord, thy will be done.'
For all the joy this bird shall bring, the risk of grief we'll run.

We'll shower him with tenderness and love while we may,
And for the happiness we've known, forever grateful stay.

And should the angels call for him much sooner than we planned,
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes, and try to understand."

If, by your love, you've managed, my wishes to achieve,
In memory of him you've loved; be thankful; do not grieve.

Cherish every moment of your feathered charge.
He filled your home with songs of joy the time he was alive.
Let not his passing take from you those memories to enjoy.

"I will lend to you, a Bird", God said, and teach you all you have to do.
And when I call him back to heaven, you will know he loved you too.

I'm so sorry for your loss. MC and Secret remind me so much of Howard and Billy our BFA. Both wild caught and little hot heads at times. You gave them not only a house to live in but a life filled with love. Memories will always be close to your heart when you need them. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
