Interesting. I never knew that. I have well water and have never had a problem. There must be enough minerals already.@Rebel you have to add less then 1/8 teaspoon of plain salt to the water once to get them to properly steam

This is the only humidifier that my vet recommends. DO NOT SET IT UP NEAR THE BIRD OR CAGE! DO NOT RUN IT IF THE BIRD IS OUT OF THE CAGE EITHER ! Just set it up within the room.

No just once unless you have cleaned the rods inside with vinegar. Then you will have to re-add salt but less then 1/8 of a teaspoon. If you add too much salt it will overheat and sputter and kill the unitOnce like once every time I refill it?
