I’m hoping to get a uv light for my macaw.
But I’m having big problems finding a floor lamp setup that could work. Because mounting the lamp to the cage or the roof is absolutely impossible without my macaw chewing it to bits within a week or two. He’s insanely destructive and loves to chew on anything. If I just screwed one screw to the roof above his cage he would try to pull it out, because he can reach the roof then he’s sitting on the top of his cage. And I think he would chew the lamp and cable too if he could reach it, so that’s why a floor lamp that’s removable sounds like the only option. That way I can remove it to another room when he’s on the top of his cage.
His cage is tall. 192 cm and as I understand, the lamp should be 20-30 cm over his cage. So, that means the floor lamp would have to be about 212-222cm tall. I’m really not finding a lot of options. I’ve been looking at the avian sun floor lamp (supports up to 26watts). And it looks decent, but I would have to get some sort of small box on the floor to place it on as it’s only 185 cm tall at most. But that’s not the only problem. As far as I understand, it’s only compatible with the avian sun 5.0 (5.0 means 5% uvb?) bulb? The socket size is listed as e26. I’m very unsure about getting 5% uvb, as uvb is potentially very bad for macaws eyes and bare skin. So I found another bulb that sounds much better, the arcadia puresun compact 20watt (only 2.4% uvb) that will fit an e27 (and possibly e26?) socket. But I can’t find any type of setup that could work for me. So I would love if someone knows how I can solve this problem. I’m essentially looking for some kind of stand or tall lamp that i can use to get the bulb properly placed over his cage without mounting it to the roof, the cage or the wall arcadia also sell longer bulbs (T5) that only has 2.4% UVB and they seem nice but again I’m not sure how to attach them to a stand.
I’m adding some photos of the products mentioned and the top of his cage (with a drawing of a desired floor lamp solution in red next to his cage), so you can see kind of what the problem is and easier understand what I am talking about. The roof is at the tallest place 35 cm taller than his cage.
