Something happened to the lock on my bird’s cage, no idea what. The spring and metal piece isn’t moving when I try to move it unless I force it. The replacement part is out of stock on Bonka bird toys and I found one on eBay from them too, but won’t ship to US. It’s this lock and I don’t know what to do

For now I'd just run a small chain with a bolt to lock it or something similar he can't destroy. The lock itself might be easy to fix if you know how it is built. Puffs cage has some through bars and clips, Dobby has a similar latch to yours but it still works. Anything that works and wont hurt your bird or be easy for him to break for now.
Amazon and eBay might have replacement latches or something that can be made to work.

The only difference between this one and the 7 is 1/4 inch on the width would this work

If it will still bolt on place compared to the old one it should. Try searching for the exact name of the cage company and see if the exact one shows up. Use the number and description from the place that is sold out.

The measurements are the same except for the width so I am going to try it and hope for the best. I left a note on the order asking if the have the size 7 anywhere or if they’ll get it back in stock.
I couldn’t find it anywhere else. :( Kings cage 8003223

Spring Lock #8.
Measurements:
21/4 inches long by 11/4 inches wide.
Center to center hole 13/8 inches.
Hole diameter 1/4-inch.

Spring Lock #7. (The one he needs)
Measurements:
21/4 inches long by 1-inch wide.
Center to center hole 13/8 inches.
Hole diameter 1/4-inch.

I am so stressed

The spring is stuck on the outside how can I get it back in
can you rotate the spring and get it to worm back inside, then with a needlenose pliers maybe open the spring a bit so it won't fit thru the hole again?

It sounds like the mounting holes for the screws are the same so it will probably work.

I tried to with needlenose but it wasn’t budging. :(
I will try again tomorrow though. I ended up putting the lock back on the cage for tonight so he could go to bed.

you can definitely try some lubrication (even soap) and also making various parts hot or cold to expand/contract them. Although I don't think it would be easy to make one part hot and one part cold. Probably just try changing the temp of the whole thing just in case it could help since they are probably different metals and different response.

I got it fixed!!! I was able to pull it back through after I bought different sized pliers and really worked on it. Part of the spring broke so I got a new one and just fit it where the gap was under the old one. It’s not perfect but it’s working so I’ll take it. :D

Thank you everyone for the help! I appreciate it so much.

I spoke with Bonka Bird Toys this morning and they were reaching out to their manufacturer about if they can get the size 7s back in stock. I’m keeping my order of the 8 just in case, but if this happens again I’m hoping just replacing the spring would fix it.
