My budgies lay second clutch of 5 eggs.
Her first clutch of was 4 eggs from which she raised 2 babies, rest of 2 eggs were infertile.

Now from clutch of 5 eggs, 1 egg is hatch yet. I found dead baby at the bottom of cage.
My question Is either mother killed the baby and thrown out or some otherthing might happen with baby.

Now 3 eggs are in nest box which she is incubating. 1 egg is missing. May b she broke it and eat or thrown.

What is the cause of baby death...??? Help please

Hopefully one of our members with breeding experience will be along soon to answer some of your concerns.

Have you considered getting dummy eggs for future clutches?

Laying eggs and raising chicks is hard work and taxing on your birds health.

Just a thought to prevent future baby bird losses.

How old are your budgies? How close together were the clutches? As @Shezbug said, laying eggs and raising chicks is very taxing on the hen and a substantial break between clutches is a necessity to maintain your budgies’ health.

If something is wrong with the chick or egg, it is not unheard of that the parents destroy them. More experienced members will come along to assist you with your current situation. Dummy eggs and removal of the nest box will help you discourage egg laying in the future.

@Beasley they are of more than 2 years in age. The difference between 2 clutches is 6 month.
I am waiting for someone more experienced to answer my queries

Breeder here.

Sometimes breeding just isn’t all rainbows and unicorns and cute babies. It can be full of trials and tribulations and heartache.

There could be multiple reasons why the chick died, and for the missing egg.

Sometimes the birds just aren’t ready to be parents.
Sometimes it health related, or poor diet related. Or inexperience.

dis you have you birds vet checked before allowing them to breed?
What sort of diet are they on?

I suggest you up the feeding of the veggies, beans and lentils to more than once per week. Be careful with putting egg shells in with the egg food because if not crused fine like granulated sugar the sharp edges and harm the birds crop. I am not a breeder but will also suggest you rest the mated birds for a while and not let them breed.

Vegetables should be offered daily.

Is it possible that the chick fell? Be sure your nest has the entrance raised so that they don´t accidently fall out. They will crawl towards their mum or other chicks seeking warmth. Remember their eyes are closed.

As for the missing egg, that happened to me once a few years ago. I suspect the mum or dad ate it. Maybe that is what happened to yours if you didn´t find the egg anywhere.

I hope all goes well for the other eggs.

I offer them soaked beans and lentils every otherday along with soaked wheat.

@Zara

The entrance is quiet high... i think the baby is just of one day so there is no chance to climb out that high. May b the baby died inside the box and parents thrown it out... Alas!

Didn’t find out what happened to baby.
