Re: My moms TAG bit off her parakeets beak

My dad talked to a vet this morning via phone. He hasnt taken her down yet..this is what he texted me:
"He told me to put a baby aspirin in water and let her drink for the pain..also neosporin is good for infection for at least a week. He gave me a food to feed her dry or in water if she wont adapt to eat like that its better to put her down"

I talked a bit to my brother and i told my brother if they are not willing to do the work I am taking her back. She is not even 3..thats not right to put her down. It may be a long road but im sure she can adapt and pull through it. I sent my dad all the responses from here hoping that will make him see how serious this is. But now im off to work so i wont hear from them until tonight =(

Oh no....I can't believe they haven't taken her to the vet? Poor baby is most likely in so much pain....I hope you can go get her and take care of her....she deserves a chance. I am so sad:(

Let us know what you find out when you can...how close are you to your parent's home? could you go get her tonight and take her to an emergency hospital?

Jan, take her back. PLEASE take her back and take her to a certified avian vet, not some hack claiming to be a vet who would simply advise on an EMERGENCY matter over the phone. That little keet needs a vet and you need your respect for your parents, which will evaporate if this little bird dies of shock.

I'm so sorry. It's sad they don't understand how serious this is, especially the first 24 hours after this trauma. It must be traumatic for them to see her this way. I hope they will let you help her (and them) so she has the best chance.

Just want to say that with proper and immediate vet care, there is a very good chance that your budgie will recover! Charles is doing GREAT and it's only been three months since his accident. He eats perfectly normally now. The only difference is that I have to have his beak trimmed regularly. We're going in for our latest tomorrow actually.

Re: My moms TAG bit off her parakeets beak

Ok i just got an update from Jan and she told me to post this update on here for her.

Went to the vet and he gave us antibiotic and food but he wished us good luck cause the remaining piece of beak may fall off. Half is attached to the skin and half off. He tried to move it and it started bleeding. Said he may not survive surgery so he gave us a small syringe, food, and meds and wished us good luck.

By the way Jan, I am sorry I missed this post but I will be praying for Sky :hug8:.
