I was out all day today & my family member had to come clean about My 9-year-old female umbrella cockatoo who ate kinder milk chocolate. She didn’t puke it’s the poop color is very concerning.

I noticed her poop color is a little bit darkish black. It’s nighttime here and cannot take her to the vet. (no 24/7 vet emergency)

I am freaking out it’s been hours & nothing has changed with the color. I tried to contact the online vet so far no response.

How is her behavior? Normal? Eating drinking? Milk chocolate isn’t as bad as dark chocolate in terms of toxicity.

She’s normal eating and drinking it’s just her poop color is concerning to me. The one she ate is Kinder chocolate :( I really hope it doesn’t harm her internally.

Did your helper say how much chocolate she consumed?

Milk chocolate is much less toxic than dark chocolate because it's diluted with milk and sugar. Usually milk chocolate will cause diarrhea but no lasting , severe illness. Things to watch out for are lethargy, labored breathing, weakness. These symptoms would usually appear within 12 hours of ingestion if they're going to.

Cockatoo. Getting amount eaten in a few. Thanks for helping!

There's no antidote. Treatment is symptomatic. If there's diarrhea or regurgitation they can give peptobismal suspension or kaopectate suspension 0.05 cc per 100 g body weight orally twice daily.
How was your experience with Jeanne Smith, DVM?

Thank you @saroj12 I cannot thank you enough. So kind of you to even ask Online vet about my cockatoo symptom.

She does have diarrhea atm leaving her to sleep I kept her up way past her bedtime. Hopefully, it will pass & she recovers from this.

You’re welcome. Dr. Smith is my online vet. She’s very quick to respond
