Ok the specialist called this morning with good news that Tyler is ok.. he is the healthiest looking gray he has seen at that age and doesn't look his age.. he was very good, even noticed the last little bit of left over feathers growing in from when he plucked last time he had to wear that collar (from the last surgery) and asked if he was a plucker..
He does have a heart arrhythmia/murmur, he said it's a 'sinus arrhythmia' meaning it's ok but it's still 'off' making the anesthesia a little more worrisome and challenging but still necessary. He said it could be from the sunflower seed and peanut diet he'd been on befoe he came to live with us or if could be from infection or his age or hereditary..
He was sedated and had a little 'birdy-colonoscopy' deep inside his cloaca it was very irritated do the doctor took a biopsy, his cloacal tissue didn’t look saggy, he said it looked like, maybe, hyperplasia..
During the procedures apparently his heart rate went down but then immediatly then repositioning him (his wings, head and feet, moved the blood and brought his pressure back to normal.
They did scan for his legs to see what might help him the best and the doctor said he does not see any arthritis but he does have (like I thought) a VERY old fracture in his right leg that never healed properly and he said it looked like Tyler was probably just never even seen by a vet for it,. poor little guy. He said he might have ' 'nerve entrapment' from that, causing him the pain in his feet/toes.. which is why he walks on balled up fists
They are going to be putting him on several different meds including ‘meloxican’ (sp) and if that seems to help his pain he can be on that one at a lower dose chronically for pain for as long as he needs it. They may do the lupron but they think he is a male and it might not help as much (especially since he has never shown any signs of any sort of.. to be blunt, masturbation, or anything like that, ever, in all the years I've known him. but it's worth a shot.. I will mention the medication you told me about, Birdasaurus, thank you.
They are doing the blood workup and stuff and we should be able to go get him today unless something in the blood work comes back very bad.. so hopefully we can pick him up tonight...
