Transitioning a non caged bird to a new cage

Hi everyone! I am looking for some advice on transitioning my non caged bird to a new cage.

I have a 4 year old solo lovebird who can roam free all day (I am home most of the time). The current setup is a small tabletop cage and a bigger tabletop cage which is stationed next to my desk and he only really perches and plays on the top of the cage and doesn't go in. For a while this felt "ok" because like I said, the cage is never closed and at first he only went in there to eat, since he slept on top of my curtains. Situation changed and he's learned to sleep in his cage now. I switched him to a large platform perch for sleep which he loves but after that he 1) started hanging out in his cage a lot more during the day and 2) I noticed because the size of the perch his movements to get on there seemed a little awkward and cramped. This ultimately made me decide it was time for an upgrade.

The new cage is standing next to the tabletop cage as a way to get him used to it, but I haven't removed either of the other cages yet since I didn't want to overwhelm him. I put some treats in the cage which he is trying to get to but he is either nervous about going in or doesn't understand the new entrance yet. My gentle guiding is also not being appreciated so far. I am wondering if my approach is too gentle, and if I should just remove one of his other two cages (I can detach it and temporarily use it as a tabletop for example) or if I should give him more time (its been 3 days now) to explore it on its own. In that case I wonder how long I should leave him be to do it on his own.

Thanks in advance for your help :')
