Does anyone have any experience with using cleaning products that contain thymol around birds?
Thymol is marketed as a "botanical" or "natural" disinfectant, since it is derived from the herb, thyme. It has a pleasant aromatic odor and strong antiseptic properties. In addition to being a general disinfectant and fungicide, is also a rapidly degrading, non-persisting pesticide. Bee colonies are treated with thymol to control deadly varroa mites and reduce mold growth.
I am wondering if it would be a safe choice for use in a large planted aviary. I like that it degrades quickly and is effective at reducing parasites and fungus/molds. It sounds like it would not harm my plants, but I had trouble finding definitive information about bird safety.
