Thoughts on harness training an Amazon?

I'd never thought about it much before, training my Amazon to go outside. From what I had seen, I was put under the impression that free flight and very heavy recall training was the standard for this sorta thing, and harnesses could be harmful or restrictive. I'm not even entirely sure where I got the idea, really. After looking at the forum further it seems that harnesses are probably the only safe method for it, unless I'm mistaken. In any case, how would I even go about flight and recall training? I know about getting birds used to stuff like harnesses, where you first let them see it, then introduce it to them bit by bit before ever letting them get near it, let alone in it. I'm still curious, though. I was thinking maybe I could take advantage of the fact that my Amazon is still fairly young (roughly 4 years) so I could train her. She really does love flying, but there's only so much house space. Also, what would be good harnesses? I am very aware that birds have complex breathing systems that you should be very careful not to restrict, so I suppose I'm just a bit worried that the wrong choice could harm her. Thank you!!

Also I still need to get her properly recall trained... she mostly only does it when my mom or nanny (main caretaker) call her since she likes them more... jajaj...

I think a harness is the safest way to take your birds outdoors.
I did try to train one to a harness but some human serious health problems interrupted for a few years and I never did it.
The Aviator harness seems to be the most popular and they do give instructions with it on how to adjust the harness and train the bird.

I am amazed and impressed at how some people get a bird trained for recall and free flight, but I also see how any time I depend on trained behavior I may get 99 successes and a spectacular failure. And it only takes one "Oh... what's that across the field... let's go see" moment and they are gone forever.

So not even considering it.

But I also just can't imagine any success in getting a harness on my amazon. At least not without a lot of fighting, probably some blood spilled (mine), and then a complete panic once attached. The vet wrapped a leg in a stretch bandage one visit after a blood draw, and it was sheer and utter panic and desperation to remove it, enough the vet decided we had to towel her and remove it before she hurt herself.

I also went through harnesses with very clever dogs, horses, and ferrets. All at one point or another managed to get out of them (or lose from the lead attached to them) if they really wanted to. Fortunately none of them could fly.

My amazon I think will be forever home bound, unless one day I get really ambitious and build an outdoor enclosure -- a few poles and fence maybe.
