Hi everyone

I'm thinking of getting a parrotlet I live alone and work shifts . My shifts are 7 to 5 and 12 to 10.I do get days off in the week

I have previously owned a parrotlet who unfortunately passed I was living with family then.

I owned a Indian RINGNECK until last month rehomed her as I was unable to give her the attention she needed. I didn't realise how much attention she needed as they are very intelligent birds.

Do you think a parrotlet would be ok on its own . I will get a big cage for it and leave the radio on for it and will spend time with it everyday out of the cage

No idea re Parrotlet's - someone else will advise better.
What can do fine with long periods of no people are 2 or 3 Budgies, who can interact with each other while you are absent.
Just get a nice big cage - minimum 1.2mtrs long x 40cm deep and 40cm high.

I help with a rescue and recently picked up a parrotlet who had almost completely plucked itself bald from being left alone a lot. I would suggest getting a pair of something to keep each other company. As already suggested, budgies or maybe cockatiels.

Unless you're home to give lots of one on one, Parrotlets seem much happier with a buddy. Two males or male/female, but not two females. A large enough flight is needed as they have a snarky/violent kind of love. Lol. I'd recommend minimum 30"x20"x40".

I find my two are highly intelligent, they rival the big guys for sure. They are NOT a set-it-and-forget-it species.

Agree that a pair would be better and not that much harder to look after than one
