They have a Pionus!!

Local rescue, added to their page 2 days ago: 3yr old male.

I wish I had checked sooner. I sent an email immediately, but they have been so overwhelmed with applications on most birds that they never respond.. I've had my cage ready and my application on file for over 6 months.
Unfortunately they are not allowing inquiries by phone or in person...I previously emailed asking about a blue front amazon female, and a severe macaw female, but I heard nada back.

But if you look at my post history, this bird - this is what I have been wanting for so long.

Come on rescue, pleeeaaasee let me meet him!

Someone actually responded to my email this time!
They said he is still pending his lab results from health testing and their adoption coordinator is out sick, but they put me on the list of interested parties.

They did not say how long that list already is.

No news yet. They said I could follow up next week to ask for updates.

I'm also still on one breeder's waiting list for either a BH Pionus or Blue Crown Conure, been on there since like September though.

I'd like to pick out some toys just in case, so I can order them immediately if needed.. I have a *few* big bird toys but mostly budgie stuff. I didn't want to commit to a lot not knowing exactly what kind of bird would be in the cage.

Any suggestions of awesome pionus stuff our vendors have?

Well I emailed them back twice now asking if there are any updates, and nothing.

This is the 3rd or 4th bird I've tried to contact them on in the past year, and the only response I've ever received.
I take my budgies to their vet so they have records on me as well as my adoption application, I thought that would make it clear that I'm serious.. but they still don't let anyone visit because of Covid so I never get to talk to anyone.

I just saw on facebook someone local who already has a ton of birds posted a picture of her new bird, and it is the same severe macaw I tried to apply to adopt a few months ago..
I'm happy for her but I'm getting SO frustrated.
If there is a reason no one wants to adopt to me, I wish they would just tell me.

Our other local rescue is just as bad.. I did the required beginner bird care class with them (after begging repeatedly for the invite), but they have also ignored my adoption application and my foster application.

The one breeder wait list I put myself on has yet to call.
That leaves me with only the really shizzty creepy bird mill store where I got bit, and I'm not giving that guy money.


Sorry..bit of a venting mood. I am so sad and so ready to give up. I want to adopt, but I'm really feeling sour on rescue after being ignored like this over and over.
Anyone want the $400 cage I've had sitting empty for 7 months?

I keep thinking about it. But then if I have to throw a fit to get to adopt a bird.. I feel weird about that.

It's true that you shouldn't throw a fit, but as a rescue (if they're legit) they should be better about filling needs. I mean gosh, don't they want to move their birds along?

Can you go in person? Would it be better to call even tho they said not to? Maybe call early, before hours when you might just catch someone there?
