The doves are creating a new nest!
I saw one come to my balcony with a large twig, then fly to the palm tree that Pepper fell from. He met with the other dove up there, laid the twig and I´ve just seen him fly back up there with another one!
I wonder how well it will hold! Hopefully the council don´t come down here cutting trees back like last time.

Sidenote, the two hawks have been mating non stop multiple times a day. Maybe they will have some chicks soon too :)

So for the last few days I have seen a little beak poking out.
I went up to my parents flat and picked up the binocular, while I was there I had a look... and saw TWO chicks! :dove: :dove: :faint:
They are in Peppers tree!!!!! :swoon:

It´s incredible their ¨nest¨ is sooo small, they´re just stuck to the side of the palm tree.

I didn´t have my mobile to try take a binocular pic, but I will go back upstairs and try because the view is better up there than here :D :D :D

Sorry, its incredibly hard to take pics through binocular! Ironicly my mum has bought my boyfriend a pair of binoculars and it has a contraption to hold your phone in place so you can take pictures... But I couldn't possible open it... :chin: :rubhands:

After I took a couple of pictures I saw the parents come and feed the little ones, gosh I thought the little one would fall!
At least I know they are there and can keep an eye on them :)
Luckily it is not tree trimming season yet, so the nest is safe. Although I may move my Sansevieria to somewhere else just incase they come this way once they fledge :)

The parents were feeding the chicks, then they came down to eat,
Parent 1,
IMG_20200417_180525.jpg

He went to eat from the hanging box, then parent 2 arrived (right) ,
IMG_20200417_180603.jpg

Then the other couple came dive bombing and the first parent to arrive that was now eating from the box chased them away while parent 2 stayed on the rail,

And the other parent came back,

Mum is up in the tree with the little ones, can´t take a pic for the life of me, and the people who live in that flat behind are starting to look at me funny.....
Dad is here on my balcony being very vocal

For my boyfriend birthday (in July!), my mum has bought him his own binoculars, and they come with a clip to hold you phone to the eyepiece so you can take pictures soooo much easier (they would probably help with the microscope too)..... It´s quite a while away... but if my parents don´t come out here before then... they wouldn´t know if we opened it so I can use the clip.... :chin: maybe I wil open it, take the clip out and wrap up the binoculars... that seems fair
I wanna take chick pics! :D

Mum and dad have been here filling their beaks with food :)
I haven´t seen them up the tree... though I did only rise from my bed at 12 noon...
Just had quite the brawl erupt on the balcony between four doves, as they flew off another two came from the right. Who knew doves were so territorial?! There is plenty of food but instead of share they want to fight to hog it all

Hmm... as I type, three doves came (the parents incl.), all landed on the food, but started bickering within minutes. Two flew off. Mum stayed here, dad has since returned.

:popcorn2:

The wind was making the tree sway a LOT this morning. The wind has now finally stopped, and the sun is shining :)
Mum and dad have been here eating today, I saw them feeding the chicks too.
No doves have pooped on the balcony ledge for two days :yes4:

Do doves also feed with a milk type mucus? I know with pigeons they raise their chicks so quickly because they actually produce a baby food in their crops, both mum and dad. It is called "crop milk". It isn't like mammal milk, but it is a super food for pigeons. I wonder if doves have the same adaptation.

For reference : Mysteries of pigeon milk explained - Australian Geographic

hmm. I thought they just regurgitated. I watched them feed Pepper last year on my balcony, and I see them feeding the chicks up in the tree infront... They even bob their heads before feeding like my lovies do (well, very similar at least )

edit, sorry, I´m reading now it says crop milk for first 5-10 days. So that´s why I see them regurgitating.

I haven´t seen the doves today. They have braved the wind and rain yesterday, but today I don´t see them so I think they have flown. Mum and dad were both here today, I haven´t seen them go up the tree either.
This was mum covering the little ones from the rain yesterday;

OK so the doves had gone when I said about it here on my prev. Post.
I was a little upset they didn't all come to eat as a flock...
But I thought I saw them in the tree, one to the left feeding the chicks last week...
I'm just out on my way to bank..... Check this out,

Didn't see them on the way home. They must have been very still in the tree and everyone was staring at me stood under the tree looking up

Mum and dad having a little pig out :D
I did film a few mins including Dad chasing away another dove and comnig back, but I accidently leant on the button and switched my phone off and lost the recording.
These two really aren´t bothered by me at all. Though mum isný keen on my pillow that is propped on the chairs out there at themoment.
