How often do the wild ones come to visit? Is there a time of year that they are more frequent to your area? Are they a popular bird to have in Israel? How did you get started with Ringnecks?

Almost 5 years ago, my son in law decided to buy my daughter a pair of "lovebirds" Why do I say lovebirds? My son in law was told that this is what they were. Right!!! Anyhow Pirate (Pappagaillo) already had his ring so we knew he was a male and already two years old. My son in law was told that the other "lovebird" was a female, and that once they get started then he would have lots of "lovebirds" on his hands!!!:hehe: They live on the fifth floor and the birds were in a cage facing the sea, lots of sunshine and fresh air and high up away from any danger.....:lol:The only other danger was the large Iguana in its cage sharing the same view of the Meditteranean Sea and sitting in the same sun's rays....lazy days....easy life.... they waited, and waited, but no mating action. Each time we visited, we felt bad for the birds cooped up in a cage with no real flying area. Since we have a back yard we decided we would build a very samll aviary and include in it one of the fig trees for perching. Besides the noise was unbearable by the neighbours in the condo.

We brought them to our house, released them from the cage into the aviary and waited,....and waited....and waited some more. They seemed to like each other enough, feeding each other, preening one anothers heads and so on......But no breeding advances, until one day......all of a sudden we thought we saw dirt or blood on the neck of the second bird. International was not a female but a male !!! No wonder they didn't produce any baby birds!!!:rofl:
OK we have two males who are first of all not "lovebirds at all and since they are Indian Ringnecks, we had to find at least one of them a mate.... We purchased two young "females" and the two males were as happy as could be...My husband decided to add to the aviary some depth, doubling the size it was in order that the birds could have more flying space, one day I opened the door to put in some food, a wild one was flying overhead crying out to the others in the flock and wooozzzzz out flew one female. I cried for days and was devastated. When my husband came home and saw me all depressed and red eyed from crying he said "get in the car" and off we went to procure another female from a different pet shop. There we chose two young birds, they were supposed to be female and ended up being one of each!! In a little incubation cage all by himself was this most adorable blue IRN. He was only 8 months old, and we bought him and named him KACHOLI which in English means "My Blue" ...... Then we bought Princess a blue female for Kacholi, while walking past one of the pet shops I heard a familiar sound, noise I mean, and we bought Goldie the Yellow older one. Then Kacholi and Princess had Baby Blue, Lucky 13, his ring was coming in, and a co worker of my husbands had a yellow to trade for the blue. It was a hard desicion to make, and that trade was made....so we have Ringo.
The rest is history!!

The wild ringnecks are here all year round, actually there are a few birds which are considered menaces!! The Indian Ringneck, Quakers, Mynahs, Yellow vented Bulbuls, and the crows. They destroy the agricultural growth by devouring the sunflowers, all fruits on the trees, some flower growers complain as well and endure the destruction they leave behind!

These photos were not taken by me, they are not the same flock, but you can see the destruction:omg: they can cause! Any other questions feel free to ask. There is an agricultural farm next to the city of Nahariya where I live, Ringnecks are flying there all the time, It was so bad that this year they did not plant sunflower seeds and corn on the cob, but planted olives trees instead!! Here is some film from months ago , these are all the links! Happy watching! Turn down the volume the can be loud!
