Mochi decided she was obsessed with our pionus (who is tolerant but 9x her size), so we decided she needed friends. Unlike Mochi, the babies don't have as such great flight skills, so we decided to help them along by converting the end of our dining room into an aviary over Christmas, and it's finally done! Already, they are doing so much better at flying than they were in the flight cage, and they've also been much more friendly! We still need to add more funtivities to the end panels, but they are enjoying it so far.

I cannot believe the difference already! The newbies (Ube and Zuki, and we're going to add a fourth so there's no odd bird out), are already flying to the top rails, investigating everything, and, even better, are much more friendly, likely because they know they can just fly away if they get sick of us.

This is so cool! I've wanted to do this in my living room but I worry my non flighted guy would climb the mesh so I keep putting it off and just have a hanging garage door mesh instead. It doesn't look anywhere as nice as your space!

Luckily for us, Bourke's are not great climbers - they have tried once or twice, but it ended up being more of a jump and grab situation. My cockatiel hangs out with them sometimes and she climbs around occasionally, but it's ungalvanized stainless steel, so I'm not anticipating any issues. It is making me want to replace our other one (we have one that is a modified prebuilt catio, but it's not fully secure so requires more supervision). (Also I'm using the royal "me" because my husband did all of this while I was visiting my parents over the holidays. My contributions were limited to design input and buying a few components.)
