Hi everybody thank you for the add
I have a 9yr old african grey called charlie but we have only had him 4yrs and we knew that he didnt like women but he was great with my husband alan but unexpectedly my husband passed away on the 11/07/21 in the shower and i am so worried with trying to be there for charlie and he wont let me do anything with him never has no matter how hard ive tried and so worried i am not giving him the life he truly deserves as love him so much but feel like im failing him

I am so sorry for you loss.
And like you, Charlie is morning the loss also.
Give him time. He will one day add you to his inner circle.
It may not be next week, or next month, or even next year.
But, the two of you will make a relationship.
Different than the one he had with your husband.
But strong and steady in it's own way.

My Amazon loved my daughters and barely tolerated me for years.
Once they moved out, it took a few years before he realized I wasn't so bad after all.
He's not learned to love me as he did them, but we're good friends now, and that's enough for the both of us.

Be patient, understanding, and respectful.
Offer your friendship, but don't be hurt when it's not accepted at this time.
Slow and steady (and some treats) will eventually create a bond that will last a lifetime.

I am very sorry for your loss. Maybe try just spending time with him. Kind of start like he I'd a new bird and work slowly with building trust etc.
