Before I start this, I will say that any replies to this made after this coming Tuesday, February 4th will not be relevant anymore, as I have decided with a heavy heart that Mickey will be going to a different owner. I've lost my income recently and thus I will no longer be able to afford to take care of Mickey. It was a very difficult decision for me to make, and I've been in tears over the decision, but it's for his own good that I give him to a better home. I've been in contact with a shelter up north and they're helping me with rehoming, and they've also made sure that he won't be going back to the people who sold him to me to begin with.
With that being said, Mickey's becoming extremely aggressive with me. I'm not sure if he's hormonal (I'm not sure how bad cockatiel hormones can get when they're 7 years old so I might not be wrong) or if there's something that's making him act this way, but whatever the case is, he's constantly banging on his cage and screeching anytime he sees or hears me. As of writing this, he's currently sitting next to me flinging some food at me. Nothing about the environment has changed within the past month to trigger this, and I've kept his routine up every day since moving here, but something has changed that's made him become somewhat aggressive towards me. For example, if he's sitting outside of his cage and letting me feed him millet, sometimes he'll freak out and try to bite or hit my hand with his wings. I've tried moving my hand further away and target training to distract him, but nothing seems to make him any less afraid or aggressive towards me. Even if he can't see my hands, like if I'm at my desk doing homework, he'll sit and scream at me as well as hanging off of the side of his cage in a typical territorial stance. I'm at a loss for why this is happening; this seems like hormonal behavior to me, but I'd like to have some confirmation on why that is before I send him to his new home. Any advice or input as to why this might be is greatly appreciated.
