Thanks for moving this thread. :D And yup, they are bats. :p

I wish I could have got a better photo of the ones that were further away, but the photos didn't come out too bad considering I was using a Point & Shoot Camera. (Fujifilm)

The Zebras haven't been there long; I have never seen them there before. They have them in with the Giraffe's and I always go to the Giraffe's first. :p

when we lived overseas we had a pet flying fox so thought I would post up some info on them :D

In many ways flying foxes are more biologically similar to monkeys and humans than they are to the microbats. They do not use sound, or, echolocation to “see” but have excellent eyesight like ours in daylight and they see better than we do at night. They do not hibernate in winter, as is common with microbats. Most of them prefer to roost in trees and avoid caves and buildings, so will not come into your house, as do micros. They are principally vegetarian, whereas microbats commonly eat insects. They certainly do not suck blood like the “vampire” bats that are found in Central America. There are more differences but these are some of the obvious ones."
Bats or flying foxes

Love the pictures. I wonder which animals are "native" to Australia and which are not.
My favourite is that crocodile. In the picture below that, are those crocodile eggs?

Hi Ranae,
I am Michael, just recently joined Avian Avenue.
I am a bird enthusiat living in Hong Kong.I am planning to visit Australia to see/photograph your beautiful parrots & cockatoos. One of the places is Toronga Zoo, which I believe is your favorite.
Looking thru the Toronga Zoo website I am a bit confused as to
1.How many aviaries do they have, also which birds are housed in each aviary ?
2.The Rainforest Aviary seems to be the largest.
How dense are the vegetation/trees alongside the walkways, so is it easy to see the birds ?
3.Are there flight displays each day ? One of my favourite is major mitchell, Electus.....when would these birds be on flight display ?
4.Is it allowed to use tripod & flash for photography ?
5.Is there any website that shows inside of the aviaries ?

Best Regards
