Talking teils

Just wondering if anyone can shed some
Light on the subject so we kinda know what to look out for.

Is it just our Archie or do many birds prefer privacy when they are trying to talk? Archie is a chatter box when he is alone. But not so much when we are in the room.

What age did you notice actual words/tunes being repeated?

He really does seem to be trying to say things. It’s so cute!!!

I think it's common for birds to practice talking when they're alone and as they gain more confidence will start talking in front of people. For the longest time, my goffin would only talk in front of me but will now say some things in front of others but not his full vocabulary. My tiel Rosie has only talked in front of me. He won't talk if anyone else is around.

All of my birds have practiced more in secret before showing off I don't know what ages they all started talking, but my Quaker was in the 3-6 month range.

My greenie tends to mumble things to himself when he’s alone / covered for the night. Once he’s comfortable mumbling something, then he’ll start screaming it for everyone to hear

Listen carefully at the very end. He definitely says something. I just can’t tell what it is. He is 4 months.

Tiels are great whistlers - if you have a favorite tune you can whistle - do so round yours regularly.

I've had both chicken speakers (They like it when they're alone when talking) and social speakers. MY tiels tended to be more open. As long as they had an audience, they didn't care who was around. Then there's my African Grey, who's more talkative (and louder) when I'm out of the room.
