I think something may be wrong with TD. He can't seem to keep his eyes open. Showing no interest in food. I plugged in his heat panel again when we got them up and out into the living room because he seemed a little shivery. He sat by it for awhile (see pics) and then moved away from it to sit by my chair (see last pic). I don't see any discharge from anywhere.

I've no problem getting him to the vet immediately (well, they're almost 2 hours away). The problem is the weather. It's actively snowing right now which means we stand a good chance of losing power. So, George would have to take him and I would communicate with them by phone. Someone has to be here in case we lose power. I'm also worried about taking him out since it's
right around freezing outside.

I'm so sorry too. I understand not wanting to go because of bad weather. Is it possible to phone the vet and see what they say or get an appointment booked? I'd definitely want to get him as soon as possible, but I also really understand weather concerns too. You able to find a weather map radar for your area? I've used them in the past and while not 100% accurate, I definitely find them useful. And plan an appointment round that? I wish you all the best, my heart dropped when I saw this thread. :bluhug: I'm sending good thoughts your way

Janet, warm the car and go. Please don't mess around once they are showing illness. You could call and ask the vet about bringing samples instead, but if you don't get an answer from a fecal sample, you will have made the trip for nothing.

He really looks sick. Warm the car, put him in a crate & cover it with a large towel. Drive slow & careful. We have 4 inches on the ground so far in central PA. Two major highways shut down, etc., so yeah not the best time to travel. If you can't go try steaming him in the bathroom. Cover his cage & keep him warm. Best wishes.

Terrible news. Started getting ready for George to take TD to the vet. I called them at 1:01 pm. I got the recording that they were closed for lunch till 2. So, I went on PetDesk and sent them a message. Unbelievably, they called two minutes later with the wonderful news that they don't have an exotic vet in today. The next nearest one is as far away as Ohio. So, for the moment, I'm following the Supportive Care guidelines. I've got him in a small cage with a heating pad under half of it, no perches or toys, in a small separate room with the humidifer going. He hasn't drank or eaten that I know of. Our only plan now is to call Animal Care Associates at exactly 8am tomorrow and try to get him in.

My thoughts are with you too! It's every pet owners nightmare to not be able to get an emergency vet when you need them. The nearest emergency vet to me is only 40 minutes away but they don't always have some one who will treat birds. It can be a real crap shoot. I wish you the best of luck with supportive care :sadhug2:

I'm so so sorry.

How old is he?

Did you try mushing food and offering on a spoon?
TD turned 8 on May 1st. Yes, I tried the softened food. I even tried Exact Baby Bird formula. I always keep some in the freezer in case I come across a baby bird that needs help, like my Miyetti. George ran down to the dollar store and bought actual baby food, but no interest.

Our regular vet is about 1 1/2 hours away, but we have a 24-hour emergency clinic about 45 minutes away. If I make a call that I'm on my way, they call in emergency vets. You have no 24 ER's around you?

Isn't there a vet that we could call for ER vet help? I thought I read that a while back on a thread.

Well, it's 5;17 now. He's no better. I'm so afraid he won't be here in the morning. I have no idea what could be wrong. He was fine yesterday. I can't stop crying. I can't lose my TD.
I really hope he'll bounce back, hopefully its just a minor infection that has he feeling poorly. Hopefully there's some vet somewhere that can help you.

No. Not near us. Not with Avian experience. The girl who called me from Animal Care Associates gave me the name of a couple but both were more than 4 hours away.

They sure didn't offer to call anyone. I can't believe they didn't have one of the Avian vets on call for emergencies.

I'll be calling TD's vet at 8am sharp. He's still in his travel cage. And thank you.

My vet always said make sure they are hydrating, warmth and eating. Hydration is important even if you have to syringe it in a few drops at a time.Janet do you have any pedialyte in the house? 50% pedialyte 50% water, it will help keep TD ‘s hydration up.
