Superb Fairy Wren

Thought I would share a few pics of today's backyard rescue who I only just got to before a hawk dived for him to make him a superb hawk lunch!


He was a little shook up so I sat with him for about ten minutes till he felt he could take off..... the hawk circled and watched the whole time! They are so brave the hawks are!

He hassles Burt at the window every day (well he does not really hassle Burt, Burt just thinks the Wren is hassling him lol) but today he was fleeing from the hawk and fully smashed into the window and was knocked out for a bit. He is so lucky I was on my way out the door already or the hawk would have got to him before I did. He was very unhappy when he first woke up to find he was restrained in my hand but then he happily sat right next to me for a few more minutes while the hawk was still watching him finishing his recovery.

He’s beautiful!! So glad you were there for him. I’ve done the same with a little birdy at work that also stunned himself. Takes a good while for them to recover their senses!

Like an aviary with always open access doors for the small birds, but too small for large birds and hawks?

We have lots of places for them to hide but they seem to like to check themselves out in mirrors and windows. He often hangs out under our verandah catching tiny bugs or hassling his own reflection. Once he got his bearings back he ran into some low bushes and believe it or not even though I knew where he was I couldn’t spot him.
