I have a Sun Conure, Tango, who is about a year and a half, who has a click when he breathes. It is very small-it has to be very quiet and he has to be close to your ear to hear it- but I'm still worried. He is totally normal-no discarge, normal appetite, playful, cuddly, normal droppings, nothing out of the ordinary except for the little click. I noticed it after trying to put him on the side of his bathtub (a bowl) and he slipped in. He started thrashing around and I think he may have inhaled a little bit of water or something. Actually, I noticed it sometimes when he was tired, before the incidednt, but it could be his beak clicking or something. Does anyone know what I should do?sun

Any breathing concerns would definitely send me to the vet.

most definitely bring him to a vet for a check....most birds hide their illnesses very well (they do this in the wild to prevent dissuade predators)...so if you notice something, please take the birdie to a vet!!!

I can only reinforce what the others have said. Get the bird to the vet and make sure the vet tells you what the click is and doesn't just brush it off. Respiratory issues are many and varied - most are deadly.

Not trying to scare you, but my Illigers (my heart) passed away a few weeks ago. He also had the clicking noise. The vet said it was coming from his lungs. Please, please go to a vet asap.

Please take him to the vet. A sun conure that I just loved developed a click while I was fostering her. We got her on antibiotics from the vet and it went away. She was not very healthy, as she had been owned by a hoarder. She developed the click again months later. Despite antibiotics, she passed away. I just loved that little bird. Please get him treatment ASAP.

Like others said, anything to do with breathing can be serious. Get to the vet. Keep us posted please.

Alright...I took him to a vet and he's on medication. I have him under a heat lamp also. Thanks you guys! He's doing better already!

Did they say what he has? Careful with the heat lamp and overheating him...

Our Sun Conure started with the clicking and a small sound when flying. Then shortness of breath. The vet first started with antibiotics. Got a little better for a while, but still gasping after flying. Got X-rays today and the vet said he's still not sure so the x-rays are going to be looked at by someone else. We're in now about $1,200. (x-rays alone were almost $500!) Not sure what else to do. My wife is a basket case as we've had Sunset almost 20 years!

Hi. Yes, everything was done. Blood is fine. Vet was not sure he could find anything wrong. He's having a specialist look at the x-rays. Gave him another kind of shot today. Sometimes he seems totally normal until he flies. Hopefully we'll find out more about the x-rays soon! I also thought these parrots lived to be 30-40 years old. The vet said 20-30 is more like it. So our bird is closer to being an old bird than middle age....

Hope you get some answers :( Most of the conures do have an expectancy of 20-25 years :( Hopefully you will still get to exceed that once you know what is wrong. :hug8:

They say the saddest day is when you lose a child.
Today at about 9:11am we lost our beloved child and pet of almost 20
years, Sunset.
There is no way to describe the 20 years of happiness we received by
this parrot
allowing us to take care of it.
I could go on to describe all the wonderful things he did and the
joy and love he brought us each and every day,
but I can't right now. It's hard to see the keys.
I will just sit and think of him between us running from shoulder to
shoulder preening our hair.
