Hello and greetings from New York. I recently acquired a beautiful sun conure, and was told by the old owner he was about 1 yrs old. He said he believed he was hatched in May 2018. Is there any way to really tell how old he is, to be sure I have a young, and not an old sun conure? I am just curious. “Skittles” is awesome, but I do notice he likes to take naps throughout the day, and he has me wondering if that is bc he is older than I was told, or bc he is simply tired. Lol. I know I am paranoid, but curiosity has gotten me to post this. I will upload some pictures as well. Any help and advice would be awesome. Thank you!! They get their adult plumage around 1 year old. With birds, there really is only two ages you can tell - baby, and adult.

Since he still has green in his shoulders, I would say he is probably almost an adult (so his hatchday appears correct to me). What does his band say?

All of my birds have always taken naps during the day :) 3 months to 20 years, they all take a mid day snooze!

The band doesn’t make any sense to me. It says: FFEB NYS 140. (NYS is sideways)

FFEB would be the breeder's call sign
NSY = New York State
140 = band ID

If you can figure out what breeder FFEB is, you may be able to contact them directly to get more information about that band, if they keep those records. Not all do and only band the bird for ID purposes before selling

Wow Skittles is gorgeous! Welcome to the flock!! I wouldn’t worry about the napping, birds of all ages enjoy naps ;) can’t say I’m not jealous

He looks roughly a year old, but still a juvenile sun conure, can take about a 1.5- 2 years for his big boy plumage to come in. I definitely dont think you have an older bird, the top of his head still looks greenish too, he's still maturing.

Not the best picture but same bird is in the back onto of the cat box. He was17 months in that pic. You can see more yellow on his back. Months are pretty accurate since he was hatched in my home.
