My budgie, Bert, age 2, died this morning. He had some health issues, but he was well enough to fly, perch, had a voracious appetite and loved to chat. Because he had spells of weight loss after frequent regurgitation, I had seen my vet on 5-8 occasions in the past year for him to be weighed and given medications for possible yeast and antibiotics in case of Chlamydia. Last week, I noticed his feathers were looking a little unkempt (in a sick way) so I sought a second opinion. Today, a traveling vet came to our home and administered an injection of Baytril and an oral dose of Metacam. Bert died within 45 minutes of this visit and spent the time in the interim seemingly seizing and despondent and crying out in the kind of painful sounding chirps I hoped never to hear. He was on my chest and I told him how much I loved him through tears and that it would pass -- at the time I thought it was an allergic reaction -- and then he just went quiet. I am absolutely broken over this. We were just days away from his new aviary arriving for him and his sister. He was such a baby still. I thought he had so much life left. He was my little love. I'm at a loss. Has anyone had a budgie die like this after being given meds?
