How do your teils sleep at night? I’m so not used to this because my caique slept in a tent from day 1. 15 years every single night he slept in a tent. So now with Archie he just stands on his water bowl with his eyes open. It seems his eyes stay open the entire time. Is this normal?

Its normal. Theyll close their eyes when youre not looking.Cockatiels can actually sleep with one eye open if they choose to. Only one of my 6 cockatiels will sleep in the same spot every night. 2 of them have two different spots they alternate between. The other 3 have multiple sleeping spots. They sleep where they feel comfortable.

So they don’t do the normal sleep position with their lil head tucked into their back? They just stand in place for 12 hrs? Thats so odd to me

Honestly most of my birds haven't done the head tuck while sleeping at night. Ripley and Quibble will do it for naps during the day sometimes, but usually they just go to their roost and fluff up their feathers.

But yes the appearance that they"aren't sleeping" is normal. They are prey animals and need to be aware of their surroundings even when asleep.

My Rico had the oddest sleeping habits I have ever encountered in a bird. He would sleep on top of his cage under his blanket. It was a routine we would go through every night. I would escort him to his cage, he would climb out the open 'window' and lie under the blanket on top of cage. In his last months he decided he wanted to sleep in the bathroom at the end of the shower rail. Every night he would fly in there and that would be him till I got up. I miss the little guy and his eccentricities:)

Candela didn't sleep with her head tucked back till I had her for several months, so I assume it is based on how comfortable they feel in the home. You could try a platform perch if you don't already have one.

Patches sleeps completely horizontally :rofl:So I think it's just a preference thing!

The only time I see him with his head on his back is sometimes for naps. I was concerned about it too at first, but my vet thinks hes just trying to mimic how I normally sleep (face down haha)

My tiels do tuck their heads. Do you cover at all? I cover the back half of their cages at night.
