The vet was nice and certainly knew more than the clueless vets in Juneau Alaska, but the staff was very unimpressive. I asked for a copy of the paper that listed exactly what tests they were going to do and the girl kept giving me the run around and said she would copy it when the tests come in if I still wanted it.

Well,I wanted the paperwork then to make sure I wasn't being over charged because it came to over $600.00 which is alot more than the estimate of $300.00 they gave me over the phone. I really didn't get why she just didn't photo copy it for me when she had to photo copy the receipt anyways! Anyways I will be getting the results of some blood work Tuesday and then might take 3 days for the rest to come back.

I guess I was hoping for more than we got,I had a splitting migraine when I was there and looking back now I am wondering why certain procedures weren't done. He should have looked in his throat and vent and listened to his breathing and heart rate, but he didn't. Maybe I am expecting too much,I know the guys not some golden miracle worker but it would be nice if he was lol.

That does seem strange he didn't do a physical exam. But maybe due to how his health is he didn't want to stress him too much?
Still sending prayers and thoughts for you and Zeus.

Well Zeus and I got back to Alaska last night and today I heard back from Dr Lavac that he finally got all of Zeus's tests back and they were all clear yay! It's such a weight off my shoulders to know he is going to be ok!

I had the vet here in Juneau do a culture and sensitivity and when I had called them from California they informed me there was absolutely nothing wrong with the results. I had the vet here fax the results of both the C&S and the gram stain to Dr Lavac and he informed me that there was quite a bit of Staph... So it seems my poor little Zeus had a staph infection and the antibiotics they gave him along with the care I gave him cleared up the problem.

I'm happy to say that although Zeus still can't fly he is much stronger and we are working hard each day to gain his strength back. Today Zeus had a nice long bath, the first he's had in a month! Zeus has that sparkle back in his eyes and is chirping again and happy! Hopefully my little guy will be back to zipping around the house soon and his horrible illness will be a distant memory.

I am sooooo glad your lil lovie is ok!!! I just read this whole thread and was crossing my fingers that it was not liver disease. Never heard of a bird getting staph before...There are some really great avian specialists in CA. Cali is where all the avian vets here on the east coast seem to send their tests and necropsies.

Just know that you are an amazing bird mom and that you are doing an outstanding job!!!:heart::heart:
