I am looking to buy a new lovebird for my mom.. We came across this lovebird that is hand fed, very sweet, and 6 months old. She seems normal but there are some things that concern me… the woman at the store says she’s half priced because of her age. Also her beak seems odd. I would love to get opinions on this! My mom and her had an instant connection at the store and now we can’t stop thinking about her!

Is 6 months a little too old to purchase?
Does her beak look concerning?
Is it shady that she is half priced because of her age?

Might be an older bird but if you have a connection I say give her a good loving home.
Longer beak in a young bird could mean some health deficiencies.
6 mo is not an old bird.

No. Any age is a good age! :)

Looks ok to me. The blackened end where it is a little longer will file away with playing chewing wood, or rubbing on a Pedi-perch or lava stone.

Is it shady that she is half priced because of her age?
No. The person who has her knows that most people want those recently weaned birds and so the dfemand will be less for this bird, even though they are still young and a good age to adapt somewhat quickly.

The bird's beak looks fine to me. Being older isnt a bad thing, if the bird is sweet with your mom then that is a plus. People just want younger babies because they are babies just like people want puppies and kittens.

Females can be feisty & hormonal...only thing is the possibility of eggs.
6 months is not old at all but might have been in the shop 3 months so they want her to have a home.

If you are drawn to the bird & the bird too you or your Mom...that is special.
I f you have researched & are ready for the commitment I say go for it.

I got Janis and Jim when they were 1 year old already. Its not old its a great age . The beak seems fine to me and maybe take her straight to the vet afterwards to make sure? Its hard to get birds to have instant connections btw. So its worth a try

Marvin was the last of her nest mates when she came home with me October 16 -- hatched May 26 (so, just a few days shy of 5 months). She's been a joy for the past 5 years.

Jericho joined me when he was 11 years old, and Oscar was 10.

I'm not concerned about age when there's a connection.

6 months is not too old :D I only adopt birds that are over 10 YEARS old

The longer a bird is in the store, the smaller the profit margin gets. So pricing down birds that have been there for a while is not suspect to me.

Her beak also looks normal :)

All of my cockatiels have come to me as seniors- 15, 20 and 30. 6 months is a baby! Don't let age be a factor.
