Hi all, is anyone able to tell me what sex this red rump is. It is the offspring of my pair. I would like to get a mate for it but need to know what sex it is first. I'm thinking it is female due to dull colouring and absence of red rump. Has anyone got any ideas please?

I am not sure you can visually sex the mutation red rumps. @Monica?

I would guess female but am not very familiar with red rump mutations. Could be a male.

What do the parents look like?

I would guess that it is female because I thought that only males have red rumps, but I might be wrong.

Okay so all offspring will be opalines. Although overall, colors may appear dull, this chick may in fact be a male.

Female opalines are still "duller" in color, if I understand the opaline coloration... i.e. these photos

So I think it's safe to say you have a male chick?
