Does anyone know what a fair price of a baby Severe Macaw is these days? I’m helping a friend research and have no idea what’s considered reasonable for one of those guys. Thank you!

I'm the US I've been seeing them at 3500 to 5500
From a reputable breeder, I'd expect a similar range in Canada.

Regarding the "insane" prices, I'm happy to see them as a barrier to entry for people who really can't afford the costly long term commitment they're making and to reduce the chance of flippers getting a hold of "product" to profit from.

I echo the recommendation to keep an open mind to an adult bird -- not to save money, but because your friend will have a better idea whether they get along with a specific sexually mature adult individual (and vice versa).

A local breeder had babies at like $1800 last year. They cost more now

I second the suggestion to have your friend check out rescues. :) So many birds in need of good homes.
