No more mixing her medicine into chop or on toast or hiding it anywhere.

I put it directly into a tiny stainless steel condiment cup that I use for those feedings and offered it to her. She lapped it up like a dog and licked the bowl.

:banghead::bash::tmsmakesme:

Why didn't I offer it that way first?

So. . . . I showed her the syringe. Evil. Then gradually I showed the syringe, tapped the bowl with it, offered a drop of the yummy medicine. She took the bait. Now completely syringe trained, no biting the syringe even.

Two times a day that bird gets medicine. This all happened within just a few days!

We've gone to easy peasy for medicine.

Amazons.......

Sometimes we do not give our birds the credit to do what we want them to do before resorting to more complicated things. I am glad that she is syringe trained.

What kind of medicine is she getting. Mine gets Lactulose with Milk Thistle. I think he likes the taste as well. We put it on Cheerios and he begs for them!

It's a blend the vet makes (lactulose milk thistle echin dar). No clue what those things are for sure. Secret adapted quickly to the syringe though.

Wow - well done, Clueless!! :starshower1: I'm at where you were with Ollie... hiding it in as many things as he will eat. Sigh.

Secret's meds are in a base that appears to be a flavor she likes. Never knew it! Should have tried earlier!

Sashimi, my first cockatiel, had liver issues. He was on milk thistle too. How is Secret doing emotionally?

What can I put in a syringe to start training my guy now, for when God forbid I have to give him meds like this?
Look up Barbara Heidenreich (spelling?). I think she had training videos on this subject. You need to make sure they don't bite the syringe.

I've met this lady in person and she was instrumental in helping me to get MC to step up (his fear of hands was huge when these two moved in). Remember slow in training and step by step.

I think that's how Secret is training me.....slowly.

What’s the harm if he bites at the end of the syringe?

I’m thinking about getting him used to eating canned, puréed pumpkin through a syringe...something you could easily sneak medicine into when necessary.

You don't want them to ingest plastic.

Secret likes organic tart cherry juice. Her syringe medicine dose is 0.3 and it's a tiny syringe.
