Ok, I really need some help. My budgie Lyla has a tumor, the vet said likely ovarian. She's on pain meds everyday, she got a shot of lupron at the vet to suppress her hormones to get the tumor to stop growing. I'm also giving her a drop of milk thistle everyday as well. So I'm all set with that stuff.

My big problem is that she's scratching her bump and it had started to bleed a little. I think she's picking at it with her beak too. I really need to know what to do here. I mean I could put a soft ring on her neck so she stops picking, but I have no idea on how to stop or block her from scratching it.

Please help!

Our budgie has a huge ovarian tumor. We went to an avian specialist and found out our budgie has an ovarian tumor an inch in diameter. To figure this out her vet took a couple films and an ultrasound. He have us metacam for pain and we are giving her a milk thistle supplement to support her liver.Anyway, she has been scratching her bump and today when I checked it, I noticed that she has now scratched herself open. She's also been picking at it and do that has contributed too.i just need to know how to stop it, and how to heal the wound.

Please help us!

I have merged your threads together to keep all the information in one place. I hope someone can give you some advice soon.
Have you called your vet?

You can make a paste of cayenne pepper and water and spread it on her bottom. The cayenne will stop the bleeding, will act as an antibiotic and pain relief.

Omg thank you! I will definitely try this. Is it ok to use near her vent? And will the cayenne be too spicy?

I thought about that, but what do I use for that, materials wise? How do I get it on her? And how do I get her to stop scratching until it heals? Because I think she scratched it open and now it's trying to heal making it even itchier. I know her tumor is bothering her, promoting the scratching and pick in the first place.

Once you have gotten the bleeding to stop, maybe one of those DIY sock suit things could help keep her off the wound. I think I saw @JLcribber post about them.

Do you think the sock suit would stop her itching? She itches it with her feet, which looks awkward.

I would try to not get it directly on the vent.It shouldnt be to spicy for her and it will not hurt her if she does actually taste/eat some.

She sees it as an invasion, something that must not be there..a collar will keep her from picking it. As mean as it seems,,but, she will continue to remove the. " unwanted thing" ,,until she picks it to bleeding and unrepairable ..maybe some aloe vera on it would help. Also the metacam will help with with pain and inflammation..

I was going to suggest a spritz with warm water and aloe gel. My avian vet said this is a good mix when a bird is itching. Suggest you ask you vet what the ratio of aloe to water would be for your bird.

I got some fresh aloe and squished it up a little, and I put a small bit of the wound. Luckily it's scabbed over now. We bought an E-collar, and I would like to use it, but I'm a little worried that it's going to inhibit her ability to navigate her cage. Any advice on that? It's teeny tiny for parakeets so it is there right size.

Well, Lyla has a follow up with Dr. B on Monday, so we'll find out more info then. We're trying to decide between another lupron shot, or a hormone suppressor implant. I guess we'll figure it out when we get there. I don't really want to say much on her condition because I don't want to jinx anything. She's no better, but no worse. That's all I can say right now.

As far as her picking injury, that has healed and for now she's no longer picking. Fingers crossed that lasts.
