Dobby has all kinds of toys and a stand and things to chew on but he loves sitting on the fridge or the plant water container and he loves chewing the blankets and towels covering his favorite spots. We have found tooth brushes are a new favorite chew toy so we play tug of war and distract him with them.

For what it's worth, toothbrushes used to be very bad for parrots. I'll go find a thread.

From a previous thread......

Dr. Kersting is my avian vet. I know an article exists that he didn't recommend toothbrushes.

My vet did a paper on it. Look up David Kersting DVM A Clinical Case of Zinc Toxicosis and Potential Copper Toxicity from Toothbrushes

HMMMM, Where would they any of that in a plastic tooth brush? Dobby can spend hours chewing one and we buy him new ones but if they're bad I guess he'll have to chew something else.

He usually doesn't chew the bristles, He likes to chomp the handles but I searched for the info and the link was the first thing found. It says they hold the bristles in place internally with little zinc clips and birds strong enough chomp into them and swallow the clips. He said he had no idea they were dangerous as toys till he had to treat some birds for ingesting the metal and plastic from the bristles. Guess I need to find something similar and safe for him to destroy.

Cut the head part off with a hack saw? Can still have his toy without taking a chance on him chewing the bristles? Would have never known that and would have also thought it would be safe...

The bristles are held in with some really random things in all brushes made.
