Took the little ones down to the sanctuary today. I hadn't been before so decided to visit, they call themselves a "zoo" but they are effectively a sanctuary and vet clinic for abandoned or confiscated animals.
There was also a weird cage cabinet filled with skulls, bones and ivory that had been confiscated by customs on display.

The place is only little but there were so many animals there and eah with tales behind how they came to the sanctuary.

This is Monty, arrived about a week before, they think he's 4 months old. He was living in a bathroom and the "owners" were complaining of being bitten and in the end, the panther was confiscated. He is housed in an incubator receiving medical treatment in the clinic.,

These guys are here because they can't be released back into the wild,
IMG_20221025_120303.jpg

There was a cornsnake that had been abandoned, the guy there let my little nephew hold him.

More replies, a toad, bearded dragon, some other tago type thing, and other reptiles with legs (sorry, some of these creatures I'm not sure of and there wasn't many signs),

And more than anything else...
Birds. Will attach pics in next post.
Kind of sad really. The guy said they don't allow the parrots to breed, they remove eggs.

There were two large aviaries. A smaller one (still huge) for budgies, aussie grass keets, rosella, finches, quails etc there were two tortoises in there too.
And then a larger aviary, I cannot even count the species in there. I only noticed the ekkie once I got home and looked at the pics. And we spent a lot of time in there. Iguanas, multiple lovebird species, caiques, multiple zon species, multiple too species, b&g macaws, greys (sorry I can't tell those apart), hahns, suns, wood pigeons, peahen, Guinea pigs, Quaker, IRNs, I'm sure I saw a plum headed keet, the list goes on! The zons were friendly, came and hitched a shoulder ride when I went in. The greys were shoe munchers.

There was actually another aviary with a few zons and toos with some other birds,. The birds you see me feeding through the bars were in there and they were closed aviaries,

Loved feeding the budgies the banana chips. Such sweet little birds!!
There were some tiels, they were separately housed with lemurs.

So sad

whlist a sanctuary is better than poor care it's grim that a Bengal tiger hasnt been able to be relocated to a zoo where there is the possibilty of breeding there are only 2'000 of these cats left in the wild.

I know they have another two girls. So maybe they are trying to breed those. I'm not really sure the whole story on them. But they're conscious of the numbers.

This is very sad. I can't believe there are so many creatures there. Not sure what it says about me that when I saw the panther I thought it was a little unusual looking for a cat, but that it could be adopted. :roflmao:

Do they ever adopt out any of the more typical species, like budgies, lovebirds, the corn snake?!

It looks like a great day out! very sad so many animals have to be confiscated but happy they are now being well cared for. They have an insane amount of crocs :wideyed:
I loved all the pictures of the parrots!

Ahhhh how gorgeous!

And I see a dumerils boa! Man I miss mine. By far the absolute best species of boa out there. Couldn’t ask for better.

This sanctuary is very similar to the our Wildlife Learning/ conservation Center a few miles from us. The exotics and native animals have a back story .
Supporting these sanctuary's are vital . Thank you for sharing , I enjoy visiting .

We went back to the sanctuary.

Monty has grown nicely, we got to go into the vet clinic and see him. He was out and about walking around in the room. So nice to see he's ok! Still has a long way to grown before adult sized.
I spoke to the keeper and he was slowly introducing him to the other panther, he was letting Monty leave his scent so the other could smell him and know there's a new friend coming.

Later saw the same keeper in with the female lions giving one of them belly scritches :wideyed:

Saw the ekkie too, he was very vocal once the treats stopped, screamed the house down. He refused to step up to anyone but after a while, he stepped up into my arm.
IMG_20230411_142927.jpg

Saw three seals. Not sure where they were the last time we visited.
IMG_20230411_135317.jpg

I noticed this little guy,
IMG_20230411_141245.jpg
Looks to be 5-8 weeks old.
If you remember, I had asked about babies last time and they told me they don't allow it. So that means this little guy was likely abandoned/relinquished :(

Some more pics from the day,
