Thank you all! (I'm never sure if I should tag everyone or not) Sam is the best he's been, he's active, eating well and happily and is light for a macaw but not skinny anymore. The vet is really happy with how he's doing too. I need to get more stuff for his cage (he's actually destroying toys at last!) but he's a happy boy.

He's always ready to ham it up for the camera. :)
Sam's around 1100g usually, the vet for a while thought he should be 1400 but after several years he's finally settled on the fact that Sam is on the smaller side. I didn't realize Maui was little too!

Here is Dr. Mcdonald's analysis of average weights of birds. Interesting.

That's very interesting, I'll print that out and bring it with me next time I go and see what he thinks. Thank you for sharing! That looks more like the numbers I get from Sam. He's definitely between lean and normal because his keel bone is bent (probably from whatever broke his wing or falling due to his lack of strength before I had him) so he doesn't feel normal.

I have a few on the smaller side. Maui and Sakie are only about 1000 grams. Kailua looks bigger than Korbel but Kailua is only about 960 and Korbel 1200. Sambuca, my Camelot is 1350ish. He is hard to weigh as he bounces around.

That's an interesting data table. I've never thought of my girl (Fia) as large, but she is according to this. I always weigh her at night, before bed, so I know that's a difference. She consistently weighs between 1340 and 1370. She's not fat.
I had my numbers wrong - she's 1240-1270 - those 100 grams are significant!!
