We are trying to put together a treat for birds starting with a pine cone. What we need is something that we can put on the pine cone to allow seeds and nuts to stick and will not spoil and is safe for birds.

peanut butter and honey doesn't spoil

they're left out in cabinets/counter tops/tables all the time

I use a small amount of peanut butter on mine and spread it out to make it look like there was more then what there was - They never last long around here any way lol

You can probably use agave nectar; my parrots pulversize their pellets into dust, so if the pellets were mixed with nothing else and didn't get wet I take their mid-day pellet dust, mix it was millet and agave nectar, pack it into salt-free oat pretzels, and feed those out as treats. It doesn't seem to go bad.

But, I would thick nut butters would stick better.

Im going to try almond butter but I have never herd of it. Do you get it at any grocery store?

I have used peanut butter but it makes SUCH a mess but the nuts do stick to it. Chiquita got the peanut butter on her claws, head, feathers, everywhere. It was so hard to clean up as well but she did have fun which is why I still give them to her once in a while. Boomer does not like it, he just likes the pine cones plain.
