I recommend about 1/2 tsp for the bird bread but cooking it can cause it to not be as effective.

I used to put it in the birdy bread, but now I just spread it on the outside (although it is really messy and stains your hands orange, LOL)! I usually put a teaspoon or 2 on the top of the birdy bread, evenly.

You can shake up their treats in bags to spread it evenly over the treats.
1/2 teaspoon is what I recommend for one loaf pan, but if you are making a bigger batch, more is ok.

If you want to spread it over the bread, try a basting brush. You usually have to warm it up to liquify it, and can do that in a small sauce bowl and then use the brush to "baste" the bread.

So if you don't use it for cooking, what do you do with it?
I put it in their eggs after they are scrambled and on their fresh veggies :)

some folks feed it on a corner of toast or cracker, my guys don't like it that way

When the birdie bread is still warm, but not real hot, I just spread it like a very thin glaze over the top. Kind of like frosting a cake.

So if you don't use it for cooking, what do you do with it?
I use it with Cook & Serve treats that are not veggie or fruit based. Like Malt-O-Meal, the human hot cereal. I use the "Original" flavor, heat it up in the microwave and then I put in about 1/4 tsp. into the dish and stir. That makes it liquidy and stirs right in.

I am currently spreading it like butter on top of our birdie bread but I am thinking of switching to organic coconut oil instead of RPO. I have a thread about it in "health" forum. :)

I personally prefer the organic coconut oil. But with either if you take a toothpick and poke holes in the birdie bread after you bake it and then brush the top with the oil then it soaks down into the bread better. I also put it in oatmeal or for a treat every now and then put some on a toasted whole wheat bagel.
