Ripley hasn't been to the vet since Sept 2020...my Avian Vet's office switched to dog/cats only and she moved to North Carolina, the guy who "sees birds" in town that I hated retired, and the other "sees birds" place 45 mins away was still doing curbside and I'm not doing a new vet without me being there! Add to that mix two kids, a dog that needed an exam to get a heartworm prevention refill, and a cat that was even more overdo for a checkup, and Ripley was sadly pushed back a little more than usual.
He needed his beak and nails trimmed so I finally decided to call the office 45 mins away and make an appointment.
Pleasantly surprised and happy with how well it went. He was very honest and informative, and handled Ripley with confidence and care. Their office sent me home with a bunch of information about pellets and diets, foraging, cage sizes, etc. No one offered to trim his wings for me, which having done several vets over the years is rare for the "non specialists".
Heart sounded good, agrees he likely has arthritis, got his beak and nails trimmed, and he said he feels a bit lean but wouldn't say "underweight" in his opinion, which was a relief. He would prefer him be at his same weight and foraging more than to keep trying to put weight on him when I've already been trying for 3 years. Gram stain was perfect.
Anyways, $240 later and Ripley is healthy and groomed, and I finally feel comfortable with a vet that is less than 2 hours away.
Ripley was also happy they provided a perch for weighing instead of a bowl He hates those bowls!
Beak might need some smoothing out later but he was getting stressed and doctor wanted to avoid gas if we could.
