My lovebird passed away last night and I don't know why? He was perfectly fine moments beforehand. He was quite active, playful and what not. Before his passing he was lethargic, motionless, gasping for air, and had a two seizures. I guess my question is, what may have lead to this incident?

I'm sorry for your loss.

It's very hard to know, especially when it's sudden. Birds are excellent at hiding illnesses, so sometimes they are sick for a while with little to no symptoms and then they just perish seemingly out of nowhere.

Other times it's something environmental; a room spray, cleaner, candle, teflon pan, etc, that people didn't realize was toxic. These can cause some of the symptoms you saw, as they have such delicate respiratory systems.

Neurological or heart issues can cause seizures too.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

Some people who want answers when unexpected deaths occur, will place their bird in a ziploc bag in the fridge then take them to the vet for a necropsy.

:sadhug2:I'm so sorry for your loss. My lovebird, Ginger, also passed of a seizure just a few days ago. How old was your bird? I know how heartbreaking this can be. :sadhug: I believe that my lovebird had a heart/brain issue (because she was only 7 months old when she passed). If you really want to know what happened, you could take @Zara's suggestion and take his body to the vet for a necropsy. I hope that you can feel better soon. Also, welcome to the avenue!
