Hello,

I got this green ringneck parakeet yesterday and I am interested to know its gender so that I can name it. DNA sexing in my area is not available and I need to send the feathers to Florida. Hence I was wondering if any experienced breeder can tell me the gender of my ringneck. I don't need any guarantee but if you can tell me it will be great. Here is a picture of my ringneck parakeet unnamed.jpeg

Looks like it could be female...but I'm definitely not an expert with keets! :)

It's impossible to tell without a dna test at this time. Male Ringnecks get a ring between 17 months and three years with female becoming 'mature' at 2 or so years of age. You could try and post a video maybe? There are ways to tell, but with just a picture it's really hard.

Personally, I think it looks like a male. The beak is wide and pronounced, the area between the eyes is dark, and the head looks quite square. More photos may help but the only way to know for sure is to wait.
