From what i understand all the liquid ones are pretty much the same. Not a bad thing. The powder i have is just calcium carbonate (aka Tums). No vitamin D3 or magnesium. I didn’t realize that when i bought it.
The liquid you can put in their water, mixed in food or directly to the crop. In an emergency situation the liquid is best to have on hand in my opinion. If they need calcium asap, powder is pretty much useless.

Boiled egg shells ground up or smashed up?
These days , store bought eggs seem pretty weak shelled compared to when I was a child. I just crumble a little shell in my hand and offer it , or I leave a little attached to the boiled egg I'm offering. It's not something I'm personally worried about, birds eat eggs , females usually eat shells after chicks hatch . Even my budgie boys uses to eat the boiled egg shells here and there over their 8 years with me.

My vet only told me to grind, pulverize , so I could add to the formula so I could kinda force more into Phoebe to help with calcium quicker. And because she was so sick she wasn't eating on her own .Eggs shells are a good source of calcium.

Lately ive been getting eggs that are deformed. They’re actually conformed to the shape of the egg carton. I buy free range brown eggs from walmart.

Lately my birds are turning their nose up at some fruit or veg that I know they love ! So I cut some and put outside , guess what no bugs , no nothing has touched it ! What are they doing to our food ? A new spray on preservation stuff?? What ???? I'm trying to hit farmers markets these days

I think means fertilized?
I just learned something.
  • Blood spots
These are droplets of blood that occur when a blood vessel ruptures in the hen's ovary or oviduct during egg formation. They can appear in the yolk or egg white and usually have a reddish tint. Blood spots are safe to eat as long as the egg is cooked properly. They are more common in brown eggs than white eggs and in eggs from local farms or backyard hens, which aren't usually candled to detect imperfections.

Ive been told that birds dont know when they need calcium etc. I beg to differ.
I agree! Phoebe has really been craving egg shells; last year it was hit or miss , this year every time I offer ! I'm about to post pic in my thread of them eat eggs shells

Yes, my lovebird ate her own egg shells once the chicks hatched.
They are way more fragile and thinner than chicken eggs though. It really is a big difference.

Honestly that is terrifying. I hope you both find good quality eggs!
For anyone with normal eggs, definitely grind to powder though.

May also be a "meat spot". Neither are really something to be concerned about. I have them pop up in my chickens' eggs somewhat regularly.

How do they get there and what are they?

Meat spots are similar to blood spots and get there the same way. Meats spots are a small part of the oviduct lining.

Reverse psychology didnt work. She laid on her eggs the first two days then less and less every day after. Since i started this experiment she has laid two eggs. One today and one the day before yesterday. Not sure what to do now. I suppose ill have to try more hours of light. Its going to be difficult because her “boyfriends” cage has to be in seeing distance at all times or they both go into never ending fits. I hate to subject him to extra hours of light.

3 in 3 days. Ive never had that.

Sometimes i wonder if they have the ability to hold an egg in. My girl has went days without laying an egg. No sooner i let her out of her cage, shes laid an egg. Those may have been flukes but i still wonder.
I would try putting her in a different room but i know what will happen. She’ll start squawking and her boyfriend would probably have a heart attack.
Have you ever considered hormone injections? Im gonna talk to my vet about it.
