So not positive if this is the right place to post or not, so admin please move if needed. I am looking to start up my own not for profit 501 c 3 bird rescue in Columbus, OH. I would love for any advice or anything I should know about doing this. I'm literally at the very beginning and just starting to read about how to start up a nonprofit. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

You are brave! I have no advice, I'm just the MBS sufferer that comes to the rescue and takes the birds home. I wish you the very best of luck.

Contact a rescue that does a good job, and ask how they do things. Also, it would help immensely to volunteer for one, if you aren't working with one already.

I've worked and volunteered for several similar organizations: battered women's shelter, day homeless shelter, cat shelter, and local dog pound. Some were well run, some not. Hierarchy is very important; not everyone gets to make decisions and be the boss. Expectations and roles must be clearly communicated. Also, your obligations can NOT exceed your present funding.

You are taking on a lot all at once. Not to be negative but realistic, do you have ample room to quarantine new rescues? Will you be able to vet them and provide for their other needs: food, toys, your time, etc.? If you are financially able, with enough space, and you feel strongly about it, all the best!

Good idea!
I couldn't do it, one sick bird could cost up to $3000, minimum $800
Then to get them well with all the TLC, I couldn't trust them with someone else.

Talk to someone who already does it before you get started. Please.
You are a very brave person to be taking this on. Good luck to you and birdies.
