Just a reminder that cooking bags, especially those treated with PTFE, emit harmful fumes during cooking that kill birds. Chemicals leach from them at high heat.

Please don't use them!

There was a lady last December who used one, and all 9 of her parakeets died from it.
I can't imagine. :sad8:

I thought all cooking bags and the slow cooker liners were all dangerous. I didn't know some of them had PTFE! :shocked1:

I think I have some of those in the kitchen, I do not know why as I do not use them. Thank you for this, I will go check if they are still where I think they are and promptly put them in the bin.

Absolutely! Teflon and PTFE lurks inside places we'd never dream they'd be found in.

@Nikomania, I'm just finding out about this, and my family brought over a turkey to cook. I'm reading that foil can be dangerous too... So how am I supposed to cook a turkey without killing my bird?

Only foil marked as "non stick" is dangerous. Normal foil is still safe :)

Just as @Mizzely has mentioned. As a general rule of thumb, anything that is labeled as 'non-stick' should be avoided. Teflon pans, etc.

Wow! Non stick tin foil??? I can’t say I have ever seen it.
I can stop stressing about using tin foil in the oven now.... for ages I’ve been so careful to make sure the doors and windows are open and all fans going if we have used tin foil in the oven.

@Mizzely would that be the same for the disposable tin foil roasting pans?

Just to clarify my earlier statement

As long as it not "non stick" then it is safe :) They are usually pretty excited to announce it

I didn't know about the Non-stick part. It all makes sense now. I do own & use it (non-stk foil) occassionally but only when I can put Buddy in a segregated area & open the windows. I had no idea it was an issue! Thank goodness I know now. Glad I accidentally (by powers unknown to me) just happen to ventilate the house when I use & put him behind a closed door. I have radiator heat & feel so happy that my hubby always told me to ventilate when running our toaster oven (just to be safe), or it could've been disasterous.
