Hi,

I am at my last resort posting here but got suggested this site by someone online. I have a blue and gold and green wing macaw, both females, 13 & 14. My mum and I both have chronic health issues and can no longer give them the time they need and deserve. We feel awful rehoming them, but we know it’s best long term they go to a good home where they will get the time and attention they need. They are mostly behaved, but do squabble occasionally or squawk when they want food.

It has been six months and we are still no closer to finding a home. We are looking for someone who can have them in a home environment, as that is what they’re used to, ideally at home mostly. Alternatively, some sort of sanctuary/conservation. I am really at a loss of what to do.

I’m really at my limit trying to find a good home for them as it just seems to be impossible at this point. We would provide the large cage, food and toys. We are asking for a rehoming fee to ensure that the potential home is reputable. We want someone who has experience with large birds, as they can be challenging if you have not handled them before and are very high maintenance in terms of needing stimulation (which they aren’t getting here, hence why we are looking for a new home).

If anyone knows of anyone, or has any suggestions. Please contact me.

Thank you.

I'm so sorry to hear that you have to rehome your Macaws! :( I hope that you're able to find a good home on here, as there's a good amount of UK members here too!

Macaw lovers UK is on facebook and there are quite a few rescues that are always checking in there.
IF I was in my old house, I would be interested, but I honestly don't have the space in our current home.

My apologies.
It's Macaw Owner's UK
If you have a look through some posts, there are quite a few rescues on there, as well as loads of people looking for one.
I would strongly suggest you use the "Rehome Guide" from here as a reference for vetting ANY potential new owner.
Good luck with whichever route you go. :)

P.S.
Watch out for the people wanting them cheap to re-sell them for a lot more. There is alot of that anywhere. :(
